Th' Dudes
Legendary New Zealand band Th' Dudes have thrilled fans by announcing a show at Auckland’s iconic Powerstation on Saturday, August 24. This one night only performance marks the band's first show since their unforgettable performance at "The Biggest Pub Gig In The World" at Spark Arena in December 2020, which was believed to be their final gig.
Despite their previous farewell, the band’s passion for performing and New Zealand's enduring love for their songs have brought Th' Dudes back to the stage. This performance however will sadly be without founding member Dave Dobbyn, who has given his blessing for the band to continue. Renowned guitarist Brett Adams (The Mockers, The Bads) will be stepping in to join Peter Urlich, Bruce Hambling, Les White and Rikki Morris.
This show will be the inaugural ‘Encore Concert’ presented by The Sound radio station. In a recent poll conducted by the station during New Zealand Music Month, Th' Dudes' hit "Bliss" was voted #1 as the best New Zealand song ever, securing the top spot in the hearts and minds of New Zealanders of all ages.
“We’re more than thrilled to play again - the magic of being onstage doing those songs never went away after our last gig so we’re back and super excited!” says lead singer, Peter Urlich. “ We’re dedicating this show to Dave who won’t be standing with us but his songs will ring on.”
Supporting Th’ Dudes is Auckland based five piece Flaxxies. Formed in high school, the high energy band have built their fanbase across the country playing headline shows and festivals such as Rhythm and Alps, Beach Break and Le Currents. Their 2023 EP Sunstruck produced by Tiki Taane features their signature summery sounds and surf rock tinged reggae.
Formed in Auckland in 1976, Th’ Dudes quickly gained popularity for their catchy songs and energetic live performances. Their debut album Right First Time was released in 1979 and featured singles ‘Right First Time’ and ‘Be Mine Tonight’. Where Are The Boys was released the following year and saw the singles ‘Walking In Light’ and ‘Bliss’ become crowd favourites across the nation. With their passion for performing live and with anthems ingrained in the psyche of New Zealanders, Th’ Dudes have not only been a mainstay on New Zealand radio for decades, but also a mainstay within popular New Zealand culture. Th’ Dudes were inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2019.
Tickets for this exclusive show go on sale Monday 8 July at midday and are expected to sell out quickly.
