Living Colour, the legendary American rock band known for their groundbreaking fusion of free jazz, funk, hard rock, and heavy metal, is set to take the stage at the Powerstation in Auckland on Saturday, September 2. This will be their only New Zealand show. Their first visit to Aotearoa since 2018, they will be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of 1993 album Stain which debuted at #10 on the New Zealand Top 40 and features Grammy Nominated single ‘Leave It Alone’. Formed in New York City in 1984, Living Colour quickly rose to prominence under the leadership of acclaimed guitarist Vernon Reid. The band consists of Corey Glover on vocals, Will Calhoun on drums, and bassist Doug Wimbish. Together, they created a unique sound that resonated with audiences across the globe.
Their debut album, Vivid, released in 1988 on Epic Records, propelled the band to international stardom. The album reached an impressive #2 on the New Zealand Top 40 Album Chart. It featured the iconic hit single "Cult of Personality," which peaked at #13 on the Billboard 200 Singles chart and earned the band their first Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
The 90s saw Living Colour release five albums to critical acclaim before taking a brief hiatus. In 2003 they returned with Collideoscope and they have continued touring and recording since then. Living Colour have a dedicated following in New Zealand, having toured here many times playing for their loyal fans. Now in their fourth decade, the band are still renowned for their energetic live performances having just played New York’s Madison Square Garden.
